Righteousness as Right-ness, Part 2

This is every verse in the New Testament that contains "righteousness" or "righteous."  These have been replaced with "right-ness" and "right."

If you are interested, all of the Hebrew Bible ("Old Testament") verses are here.  These are especially wonderful because they show the dramatic connections between YHWH and Rightness.

The psychological impact of these verse is dramatically changed (at least for me) with that simple linguistic trick.

The Holy Bible, New International Version

Matthew 3:15

15Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all
right-ness.”
Then John consented.

Matthew 5:6

6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for right-ness,

for they will be filled.

Matthew 5:10

10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of right-ness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:20

20For I tell you that unless your right-ness surpasses that of the Pharisees and
the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 6:1

1“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of right-ness’ before men, to be seen by
them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

Matthew 6:33

33But seek first his kingdom and his right-ness, and all these things will be
given to you as well.

Matthew 21:32

32For John came to you to show you the way of right-ness, and you did not
believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw
this, you did not repent and believe him.

Luke 1:75

75in holiness and right-ness before him all our days.

Luke 18:9

9To some who were confident of their own right-ness and looked down on
everybody else, Jesus told this parable:

John 16:8

8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and
right-ness and judgment:

John 16:10

10in regard to right-ness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see
me no longer;

Acts 24:25

25As Paul discoursed on right-ness, self-control and the judgment to come,
Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find
it convenient, I will send for you.”

Romans 1:17

17For in the gospel a right-ness from God is revealed, a right-ness that is
by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The right will live by
faith.”

Romans 3:5

5But if our unrightness brings out God’s right-ness more clearly, what
shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a
human argument.)

Romans 3:21

21But now a right-ness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to
which the Law and the Prophets testify.

Romans 3:22

22This right-ness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who
believe. There is no difference,

Romans 4:3

3What does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to
him as right-ness.”

Romans 4:5

5However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the
wicked, his faith is credited as right-ness.

Romans 4:6

6David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to
whom God credits right-ness apart from works:

Romans 4:9

9Is this blessedness only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? We
have been saying that Abraham’s faith was credited to him as right-ness.

Romans 4:11

11And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the right-ness that he
had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who
believe but have not been circumcised, in order that right-ness might be
credited to them.

Romans 4:13

13It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that
he would be heir of the world, but through the right-ness that comes by
faith.

Romans 4:22

22This is why “it was credited to him as right-ness.”
Romans 4:24

24but also for us, to whom God will credit right-ness—for us who believe in
him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

Romans 5:17

17For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how
much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the
gift of right-ness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:18

18Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men,
so also the result of one act of right-ness was justification that brings life for
all men.

Romans 5:21

21so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through
right-ness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:13

13Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but
rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to
life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of right-ness.

Romans 6:16

16Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as
slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin,
which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to right-ness?

Romans 6:18

18You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to right-ness.

Romans 6:19

19I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as
you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-
increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to right-ness leading to
holiness.

Romans 6:20

20When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of right-ness.
Romans 8:10

10But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive
because of right-ness.

Romans 9:30

30What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue right-ness,
have obtained it, a right-ness that is by faith;

Romans 9:31

31but Israel, who pursued a law of right-ness, has not attained it.
Romans 10:3

3Since they did not know the right-ness that comes from God and sought to
establish their own, they did not submit to God’s right-ness.
Romans 10:4

4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be right-ness for everyone who
believes.

Romans 10:5

5Moses describes in this way the right-ness that is by the law: “The man who
does these things will live by them.”

Romans 10:6

6But the right-ness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will
ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down)

Romans 14:17

17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of
right-ness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,

1 Corinthians 1:30

30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom
from God—that is, our right-ness, holiness and redemption.

2 Corinthians 3:9

9If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the
ministry that brings right-ness!

2 Corinthians 5:21

21God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might
become the right-ness of God.

2 Corinthians 6:7

7in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of right-ness in the
right hand and in the left;

2 Corinthians 6:14

14Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do right-ness and
wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

2 Corinthians 9:9

9As it is written:

“He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor;

his right-ness endures forever.”

2 Corinthians 9:10

10Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and
increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your right-ness.
2 Corinthians 11:15

15It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of
right-ness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

Galatians 2:21

21I do not set aside the grace of God, for if right-ness could be gained through
the law, Christ died for nothing!”

Galatians 3:6

6Consider Abraham: “He believed God, and it was credited to him as
right-ness.”

Galatians 3:21

21Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a
law had been given that could impart life, then right-ness would certainly
have come by the law.

Galatians 5:5

5But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the right-ness for which we
hope.

Ephesians 4:24

24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true right-ness and
holiness.

breastplate of right-ness in place,

Philippians 1:11

11filled with the fruit of right-ness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the
glory and praise of God.

Philippians 3:6

6as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic right-ness, faultless.

Philippians 3:9

9and be found in him, not having a right-ness of my own that comes from the
law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the right-ness that comes from
God and is by faith.

1 Timothy 6:11

11But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue right-ness, godliness,
faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

2 Timothy 2:22

22Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue right-ness, faith, love and peace,
along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

2 Timothy 3:16

16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in right-ness,

2 Timothy 4:8

8Now there is in store for me the crown of right-ness, which the Lord, the
right Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all
who have longed for his appearing.

Hebrews 1:8

8But about the Son he says,

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,

and right-ness will be the scepter of your kingdom.

To those who through the right-ness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have
received a faith as precious as ours:

2 Peter 2:5

5if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly
people, but protected Noah, a preacher of right-ness, and seven others;

2 Peter 2:21

21It would have been better for them not to have known the way of right-ness,
than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that
was passed on to them.

2 Peter 3:13

13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a
new earth, the home of right-ness.
